How to tell if a man is gay or bisexual
My longtime friend and colleague Dr. Joe Kort has been treating and writing about gender and sexual orientation issues for nearly three decades. In his Royal Oaks, Michigan, practice, Joe specializes in Gay Affirmative Psychotherapy and IMAGO Relationship Therapy, often treating men who are questioning their sexual orientation. This population is the focus of his modern and much-needed book: Is My Husband Gay, Straight, or Bi? A Guide for Women Concerned About Their Men. I am pleased that Joe has written this book, as I hold had to deal with these questions in my own apply relatively often, as have many other therapists. I recently spoke with Joe about the novel, and I wanted to divide a few of his thoughts below.
What prompted you to document this book?
There are two main reasons. Number one is the high incidence of male-female couples entering my office because the woman thinks her man might be gay. More often than not, he’s not gay or even bi. He’s actually linear, but for whatever reason, he’s been looking at gay porn or he’s been having sex with men.

Despite usual misunderstandings, bisexuality isnt always apparent through outward signs a guy is double attraction or behaves.

What is Male Bisexuality?
Male bisexuality refers to individuals who are attracted to both genders. Its significant to understand that sexual orientation varies, and bisexuality is a valid part of that spectrum.

Previous research has established that people can tell, more often than not, whether a man is homosexual or straight from his voice alone. This ability to identify gay men from their voice has been dubbed “gaydar”—that is, a kind of radar for detecting gayness.

The reason why the voices of gay men tend to be distinct from those of straight men has been widely debated. Since we know that sexual orientation is due to the way that the brain was formed during prenatal development, it may be the case that these brain differences also lead to vocal patterns and behavioral mannerisms that are typically gay.
Other psychologists, though, contend that the “gay voice” comes from social learning. As men interact with the homosexual community, they pick up ways of speaking and acting that signal membership in the group. After all, we all understand to adjust the way we talk and conduct oneself according to the standards of the various groups we belong to.
